Property Information and Booking Policies

Please note that our nightly base rate is based on double occupancy (2 guests). Each additional person age 13 and older is charged at $10 per night.

Children 12 and under stay free. King rooms can accommodate simple pack’n’play, we do offer one if needed, at $15 per night. Rooms with two double beds are not suitable for pack’n’play.

Rooms with two double beds have a maximum occupancy of 4 guests, while rooms with king size bed have maximum occupancy of 2 guests per room. The maximum occupancy of our rooms is determined by the State of Minnesota in addition to our business policy. Exceeding the maximum number of guests is grounds for immediate eviction without refund. Children under age 2 do not count toward maximum occupancy.

All rates are subject to tax and service charges, as well as minimum length of stay requirements.

Arrival and Departure

Check-in is from 4:00 PM onwards. Check-out and departure is prior to 10:00 AM.

In case you arrive after hours and have paid by credit card, a sealed envelope with your first name initial and your last name will be posted on the interior entrance door by the front desk. The envelope will contain welcome letter/property map with directions to your room, and two key cards to your room. The credit card receipt will be sent to your e-mail address.

After Hours

Our office is open 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM daily. Your welcome letter will have an after-hours manager number who you will be able to call with any after-hour emergencies or requests.

Our small staff works hard to make sure your room is ready and the hotel is in clean and orderly condition, please use the after-hour number for emergencies and urgent needs only.

Smoking Policy

All of our accommodations are vape and smoke-free, please refrain from smoking on the balconies as it impacts the neighboring rooms. A $250.00 service fee will be charged to any unit that has been smoked/vaped in. Please only smoke and vape outside and properly dispose of your cigarette waste. Cigarette smoking station is located by the Ice and Vending Room.


If any damage to our property occurs please notify us so we can repair it before the next guests arrives. You are responsible for the cost of any damage to our property unless such damage is due to normal wear and tear or usage. Excessive cleaning fees will be charged after departure to any of our lodging facilities that require an inordinate amount of cleaning time. Excessive cleaning fee will be assessed based on the condition in which the unit was left. We will document the condition of the units with date/time stamped digital photos to support our claim.

Accommodation Overview

Accommodations include all linens/towels for the number of registered guests, small coffee maker and coffee in room by request only, extra blankets/pillows and bath amenities.

Individual Room Deposit, Cancellation and Refund Policy

Upon booking, you have provided us with a valid credit card.

In case of cancellation, you agree to pay a cancellation fee in the amount of your first night's stay if you cancel within 14 days of your arrival.

If the reservation is for five or more total room nights, you agree to pay first night's charges if cancelled within 30 days of your arrival.

Group reservations involving multiple rooms (3 or more rooms); you agree to pay a cancellation fee in the amount of first night's charges for each room booked if cancelled less than 30 days prior to your arrival date.

Cancellations must be made via phone.

A no-show reservation will result in full stay being charged to the card on file.

Since the weather is outside of our control, cancellations due to weather will receive no refunds or credits.

Reservations made through 3rd parties also known as Online Travel Agencies (Expedia, TripAdvisor,, etc.) must be cancelled on the site you originally booked with since they own and manage your reservation.

We strongly recommend buying 3rd party trip insurance to insure your trip, as we are unable to modify our cancellation policies or accommodate changes to reservations due to our small business size and short peak operating season.

You agree to pay these cancellation fees as outlined above, and authorize Cliff Dweller to charge your credit card on file when you make cancellations to your reservation. In case your credit card on file declines, and you personally decline to pay the fee; you will not be able to make another booking with the Cliff Dweller Hotel, or at our sister property; the Cascade Lodge.

Credit Card Processing Fee

Cliff Dweller on Lake Superior charges 3.99% credit card processing fee on all credit card transactions. If you wish to avoid this fee, please make arrangements with our front desk staff to pay by check or cash upon arrival.

Pet Policy:

Please read our pet policy and guidelines before deciding on bringing your pet to Cliff Dweller Hotel.

Pets are allowed in select rooms. A pet fee of $20.00/night is charged for all pets. We do not allow more than 2 pets in any of our units. We will charge a $150 fee for an unauthorized pet staying in a pet-free unit.

Extra Cleaning Service Fees may accrue if our Pet Policy guidelines are not followed.

Cliff Dweller Hotel Pet Guidelines:

Please keep pets off of the furniture; this includes beds and chairs. If your pet is accustomed to being on furniture at home we ask that you please bring a sheet or blanket to place over the furniture. If you are not able to or forget one please ask the Front Desk at the time of check in and they will provide one for you.

• If you choose not to use the cover or keep in off the furniture, an extra Cleaning Service Fee will apply as extraordinary cleaning efforts will be required. The same will apply if we are required to wash the pillows, quilts, blankets, or curtains of pet hair after your stay. Typically, this fee is $50 or more if there has been damage such as stains that will require replacement of the item.

• Please respect other guests and pick up immediately after your dog while on hotel grounds.

• Pets must be leashed while on hotel grounds--for the safety and the comfort of your pet, other guests, and their pets.

Pets should not be left unattended unless they are kenneled. Housekeepers will not enter a unit that has an un-kenneled or barking dog.
